Today is World Mental Health Day. At H&G Recruitment, we’re passionate about supporting the mental health and wellbeing of our staff – so that’s why we’re helping to raise funds for the “Campaign Against Living Miserably” (CALM), a mental health charity which aims to prevent male suicide.
It’s a difficult topic to think about sometimes, but according CALM, suicide is the biggest killer of men under 45 in the UK. As driving and logistics is a heavily male-dominated industry, we believe it is our responsibility to help reduce this statistic.
The Campaign Against Living Miserably
We’re raising funds for CALM by sponsoring Paul McCulloch for the CALM “Lost Hours Walk”, which will be taking place on 26th October 2019. Paul, who works with Wincanton, will be walking the 20-mile journey in memory of his stepfather Adrian, who sadly took his own life in June last year.
If you’d like to sponsor Paul and help him achieve his £2,000 fundraising target, please visit his JustGiving page here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/paul-mcculloch1
How Can I Help?
World Mental Health Day is a real opportunity to show that you care, and to raise awareness to an issue that’s not talked about anywhere near enough.
All of us can play a small part in helping to reduce male suicide, and support those struggling with their mental health. Here are some ways you can offer support:
- Start a conversation with someone you might be worried about
- Share a message of hope with someone who is struggling
- Share your story with others to raise awareness (if you feel comfortable doing so)
- Donate to organisations that support mental health
What If I Need Support?
No matter how bad you think things are, there is always hope, and there is always someone to talk to. If you’re struggling and don’t feel like you can talk to a friend or family member, here are some of the biggest helplines you can use.
