• Brexit – a mass exodus of European truckers worsened the shortfall
• Visa restrictions – the Government issued 5,000 temporary worker visas, but it was not a long-term strategy
• Pay increases – HGV wages rose 27%, yet recruitment still lags
This led to fuel shortages, supermarket panic buying, and supply chain chaos. Even major brands struggled to keep up.
