However, ensuring the right fit between candidate and role is paramount, which is why our onboarding process plays a crucial role in our operations.
Our clients want fully vetted, qualified, and well-trained individuals with the determination to succeed. Identifying these exceptional candidates amidst the vast pool of applicants is where our candidate assessments come into play.
Acting as representatives for our valued partners. These assessments serve as a way to efficiently manage candidate inflow and streamline the recruitment process for our clients.
Typically spanning 3-4 hours, they are conducted on-site at the client’s location.
The process begins with a practical assessment on the road, guided by one of our experienced trainers – Tarquin, Adrian, or Paul. This hands-on evaluation ensures that candidates possess the necessary skills and competence required for the role.
Following the road assessment, candidates embark on a comprehensive walkthrough of trucks and trailers, familiarising themselves with various duties such as trunking and store collections.
Additionally, they receive detailed insights into site-specific processes, ensuring they are well-prepared for the demands of the job and fully up to speed with all safety regulations.

Ben is a qualified HGV driver who was looking for a new role in Northampton and the surrounding areas and got in touch with our recruitment team to see if we could help.
He was impressed with the personal experience he had, starting with a friendly informal phone call where we were able to find out more about the specifics of what he was looking for in his next role and talk through his qualifications and experience.
We then invited him to our Northampton branch for a face-to-face meeting where he was introduced to some of our team, helping him feel comfortable and was onboarded with our agency, before talking through all the details of his potential new role, with this part of the process taking around 45 minutes.
The next stage for Ben was the driver assessment where he met our experienced assessor at the site and walked through the various processes and site rules before being assessed on both driving ability and the safety, vehicle and site-specific procedures.
Speaking about his experience at the assessment, Ben said: “The assessment processes are standard across most sites, some of the processes are different but in general provided you are doing everything safely and the way you should, then there will be no issues.
“The HG team are there to support you throughout and make you feel at ease.
“My advice to anyone going through the process is just to stay calm and do what you’ve been trained to do. You passed your HGV driving examination so you can pass your driving assessment!”
Ben is currently working nights in a full-time trunking role with one of our fantastic clients, on regular shifts Monday through to Friday.
