Although the pandemic has immersed us into uncertainty, the logistics industry has continued to boom, with increasing numbers of Internet sales fuelling the sectors on-going success. With no sign of the industry-growth breaks being pressed, now is a good time to start a career in the logistics industry.

The industry provides us with countless career paths suited to a variety of people, from HGV jobs to warehouse operatives. The industry is also evolving, adapting to a “new normal”, with increasing needs to protect our environment, the impact of Brexit and ongoing digitalisation – and you could be involved in this exciting change!

Below, our expert team have outlined three key reasons why now is a great time to get into the logistics industry:

It’s future-proof

Beginning a career in logistics is future-proof and offers a security that not all industries can. The current situation goes to show that despite economic difficulties, there will always be demand for trading and the movement of goods. For this reason, supply chains will continue to thrive.

All industries rely on logistics, meaning there are opportunities everywhere. This also provides flexibility on location, giving you the opportunity to live wherever you choose. Although these careers are predominantly concentrated around major distributions hubs (e.g. seaport and motorways), large companies tend to have smaller hubs located across the country.

There are also jobs globally, with many large logistics and supply chains businesses providing relocation opportunities. So your chances of getting a job – almost anywhere – are high.

There’s money to be made

With so many HGV drivers reaching the age of retirement, the industry unlocks new opportunities for younger generations. This career path is often overlooked, even though the average salary for a lorry driver falls between £22,000 and £40,000. There is also the opportunity to earn more, depending on your license category, qualifications and which shift patterns you work.

Similarly, the logistics industry provides opportunities for salary increases with many employers choosing to offer training programmes, such as our HGV driver training courses. This will provide employees with basic training to upskill for jobs demands.

Access for all

This sector has its doors open to people of all education levels. Employers tend to prefer skills, mindset and experience so there is no need to have a degree or higher education qualification to start your career.

The industry also offers countless entry-level jobs, with many routes for progression. Some companies even offer language programmes, allowing employees to take advantage of their company’s travel opportunities.

At H&G, we’re currently recruiting for HGV Class 1 and Class 2 drivers across the country. If you’re interested in finding out more, take a look at our driving vacancies or email enquiries@h-g-recruitment.com for more information.
